UPDATE on Recording ! !

Tuesday, January 10, 2012 18:12

We’ve spent the last year in-and-out of the studio recording and rewriting our songs. Our time at Nimbus went great, however due to switching bass players in October we decided it would be best if we started from scratch so that Chris can put his own soul into the songs.

In November we had a session in a friends studio to record drums and over the last month we’ve been in and out of the studio filling in all the blanks.  However, due to the poor sound quality of the drum tracks ( & lack of sufficient isolation) we’ve decided that there is no point in going any further with these sessions, because it will only degrade the rest of the material. You can shine a turd as much as you want, in the end it’s still… yeah, you get where I’m going with this.

This all being said, we’d like everyone to know that we’ve scheduled a day in the studio to get a proper drum sound. This next month is going to be devoted solely to recording to ensure that we get the best result from our sound so that we’ve got a quality album to release this year!

We want to thank EVERYONE for their patience over the last year! We assure you, it will be well worth the wait!

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada!

Monday, October 10, 2011 11:22

Thanks to everyone who voted us as Vancouver CFox’s “Band of the Month” for October!

Thanks to YOU we will be playing the Roxy on the 25th along with Slow Wave Saga for a show sponsored by the Fox, and hosted by the Fox’s very own, Todd Hancock!

A big thanks for all of your support, without you this wouldn’t have been possible! :D

Tomorrow night we’ll be rocking the Media Club with Rattlesnake Vendetta & Three Quarter Stone for their first Vancouver show! We hope to see everyone there to show them a nice warm VanCity welcome!

We’ve got a couple more dates in the works for the near future, so keep an eye out!

In the meantime however, be sure to tune into Indie Night in Canada tomorrow at midnight on the Fox to hear one or two of our tunes spun on the air!  It also doesn’t hurt to call in and request it! So feel freee to do so!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re thankful for all of your support!  Keep it coming!! =D

Wooooot! This month is going to ROCK !

Wednesday, August 31, 2011 13:31

This month is going to ROCK !
Not only are we wrapping up our studio sessions at @NimbusRecording, but we’ll also be having a Live EP coming out for October! It’ll basically be an audio recording of an hours set, so for anyone who has never managed to make it out to a gig, or are unable to due to not being local, this is your chance to grab hold of the Niche experience!

For those of you that ARE in the area, here’s something to add to your to-do list for Sep.9th;

We’ll be at the @RailwayClub along with 4 of some of Vancouvers hottest bands bring you one stellar night of Live Music.

AND! To boot! We’ve got a show coming up with Vancouver’s @DannyEcho but the time and place is a secret and the info will only be released to those of you who are coming out to the Railway show on the 9th.  So if ya wanna see us rock it with Danny, be sure you’re at the Railway Club for our set to get the DL of where we’ll be next!

& as I’m sure everyone is aware, Summer is on it’s way out. That means that we’ll soon be trading our beach towels and sunscreen for scarves, gloves, and snowshoes!  But until Winter roles around we’ve still got the opportunity of taking advantage of the Autumn season! -& speaking of Autumn, we’ll be opening up for THREE QUARTER STONE at the Media Club while they’re here in Vancouver as part of their Commercial Release Tour!

This is going to be a steady couple months of rock, fun, and a whole lot of shakin’ goin on!

We’ll see you all at the Railway on the 9th! Until then, keep it cool, Vancouver!

Some exciting news on the topic of #Blues & whatever else we can muse!

Friday, July 15, 2011 14:48

We’re excited to announce that BeatRoute Magazine has chosen to include The|Niche in a feature highlighting the Blues music scene that resides in Vancouver!
The feature is scheduled to appear online @ http://www.beatroute.ca, as well as in the magazines August Issue which will be available in cities all over the West Coast!  This will be our first interview to hit print so we’re all pretty stoked! =)

We’re also happy to announce that a review of last weeks show at the Roxy by writer,  Sandra Sigfusson of  The Portal Magazine, has been chosen to appear online in the editors picks!
Until then,  it can be read on the writers personal website @ http://sandrasigfusson.com/?p=100 !
There are also some pictures from the show (shot by freelance photographer, Braden Paul) that can be seen in the ‘Music’ section of his website @ http://www.bradenpaulphotography.com !

For those of you that came out to last weeks show, it was great to see you! Thanks for showing us your support by joining us on a weeknight! We all appreciate it!
Over the next few weeks we’ve got some studio time booked at Nimbus, some writing and rehearsal sessions, and a bit of vacay time to hit the beach before having to get back in the ‘school mode’ that is the way with the coming college semester.

This means that we wont be too heavily active for the remainder of this month, except for a set we’ll be playing on the 23rd in the Chinatown NightMarket, and a possible booking at the Cellar later that week, followed by our show at the Cambie Esquimalt at the end of the month!

Other than that, we don’t have another Vancouver booking until mid August, so we hope to see all of your friendly faces filling up the room when we return!! =)

In the meantime we’ll be doing our best to keep you all up-to-date with anything ‘Niche’ related along the way!

And for those of you who are just connecting with us, we hope you enjoy the ride!

Last couple weeks of sun and the Summer has begun!

Sunday, July 10, 2011 15:15

We’ve been pretty busy lately with all the shows, rehearsals, recording, promo bits (etc), and it’s therefore caused us to be a tad tardy with our ’1 post a week’ goal.  However, with so much going on, we’d like to sit down and fill you in on everything ‘Niche’ related in case you haven’t had the opportunity of coming out and taking part in all the mix.

Last Wednesday (6th) we took our bus out to Granville St and set up a generator to play a live set on the corner of the street in promotion of our show at the Roxy the following night. We managed to stir up a good crowd of people on their way to the train, going from store to store, or just wandering the summer city streets.  We also had the chance to give out tickets, talk with people who dug the set, and most of all, get our music out to a general passer-by crowd.

Since doing so, we’ve seen a boost in our online connections via Facebook and Twitter and would like to welcome everyone who’s new to our page, and most of all, thank you for connecting with us!  It’s good to have you on board, we hope you enjoy the trip!

We’d also like to say thanks to everyone who came out to the Roxy Thursday night.  It was our second time at the ol’ cabaret and we’re thankful for the decent sized crowd we had considering it was a weeknight.

If you happened to be there and were one of the many people taking photos, feel free to send some copies our way as we’d love to have you share them with us so that we can share em with everyone else online!!

We’d like to remind everyone out there that tonight we’ll be playing a free show at Falconetti’s on Commercial Drive as part of  Canadian Music Week!  We’ll be opening up the night at 7:30 so if you’re in the area, come on by, stick around for the set, and come over and say hello!
This will be our last scheduled Vancouver gig before our show in Victoria on the 30th, until the 5th of August where we’re scheduled to appear at LanaLous along with Sneaky Pete  and  Sebastian Kayne & the Sexy Offenders!

Until tonight -or whenever we see you next! – enjoy the summer heat, get down to the beach, and while you’re bumping around town, look out for us in the streets!

And remember! If you’re coming out to Falconetti’s tonight, be sure to wear your Niche shirt if you’ve got one!

Cheers!

Last Tuesday @ Fete De La Musique in Gastown | July 7th @ the Roxy w/ Cupla | & more…

Thursday, June 23, 2011 12:55

This passing Tuesday we had the opportunity of taking part in the Fete De La Musique / Make Music Vancouver street festival that took place in Gastown, along with nearly 150 other bands & solo musicians.  We were lucky enough to be able to play right outside the Blarney Stone on Carrall St @ Powell, which was prime location for all the foot traffic and made for a great audience of passer-by’s!

We got there just in time to welcome California band,  The Nukes‘, during their West Coast tour (and only show in Canada!), followed by our friends, B-Monster, who made for a jiving kick ass time!

Overall the event was well-organized. There were dozens of volunteers roaming the streets and supervising locations to ensure everything was on track, and to assist artists in case there were any difficulties or concerns.

We’re all glad that we were able to take part in the Fete De La Musique event for it’s first time in Vancouver, and we can’t wait to sign up for next year!
We’d like to give a huge shoutout to the volunteers, organizers, and most of all, to the people who came out and celebrated the first day of summer out there in the streets of Vancouver as opposed to inside on the couch watching reruns of Glee!  Good on ya! =D

With the end of June approaching, we’ll be taking a bit of break from playing shows throughout the month of July w/ the exception of The Roxy on the 7th (w/ Cupla) & our trip back to the island during the weekend of the 30th. During this break we’ll be putting all our focus on the album; getting songs complete, promo photography, future bookings, etc,.. as well as working on some new tunes (both originals and covers for the sake of familiarity) that we’ll be putting into the new set for the fall.

In the meantime, we do have a couple new tunes that we’ve been waiting to unleash on you but have been waiting for the right time, and now, with the Roxy just a couple weeks away, we think we’ll have em ready for you then!  So be sure to grab your tickets soon to ensure that you’ll get in, and most of all, keeeep your ticket stub; it gets you a free drink! =P

Tickets will be available by the end of this week so be sure to contact us (and Cupla!) to get yours a.s.a.p!

We look forward to seeing you at the Roxy!

A quick note to everyone at the Cambie last night! &&& updates regarding the album, upcoming shows, and whatever else that’s too big to fit in the title! =P

Saturday, June 18, 2011 18:58

We’d like to start this post off by saying a big ‘ol Thank You to the staff & crowd at the Cambie Esquimalt for having us in to play for all of you, getting up on the floor and dancing, and most of all, for making our first trip to Victoria such a great experience! We look forward to being back and can’t wait to play for you guys again!
We would also like to give a huge shoutout to the members and friends of Durban Poison for putting us up for the night. Matti, Graeme, Stephanie & Kamino, if it weren’t for you guys we would have been stuck sleeping in the bus! xD

It’s not everyday that you go to a new city, play for an entirely new crowd, and leave feeling like you’re leaving something behind.   So, again, THANKS!! =D

Thursday night (16th) we were back in the studio with Brendan Beilman & Chris Russell laying down some guitar tracks for the album and we’re happy to say that things are coming together great! Everything’s sounding crisp, and it’s looking like things are moving along faster than we’d anticipated!  At this rate everything should wrapped up and ready for hearing by the end of summer, and we’re hoping to organize the Album Release Party for sometime in mid-October, but of course…for now….one step at a time! =P

This coming week we’ll be taking part in the Fete De La Musique street festival in Gastown where we’ll be playing a 40-minute set outside the Blarney Stone starting at 8pm! For those of you who want to make it out but will not be able to arrive that early, just in case you weren’t aware, we’ll be at the Backstage Lounge promptly afterwards along with Erin Frances & the Socialites and The Twitch!

For our trip to Victoria we had our friend & photographer, Ava Rose, come out with us and take time away from her weekend so she could see the city for the first time and (of course) get some groovy pictures for the sake of keeping things visual.  For anyone out there who is looking for some band photography, either live or studio sessions, we definitely recommend her services! So, if you’re interested in setting something up with her, let us know and we’ll be happy to put you in contact with her!
Great company (& w/ a great eye behind the lens)  is one thing that you can never have too much of in this world! =)  Thanks for joining us, Ava! You’re welcome to come along any time!! =D

Once again, thanks to everyone at the Cambie for being such a great crowd.  We’ll see you again on the 30th of July!

Until next time,

|The|Niche

To Write Love On Her Arms & Fete De La Musique Vancouver !

Friday, June 10, 2011 13:50

We had the pleasure of being able to take part in Rock Out for To Write Love On Her Arms this passing week along with local bands Greentree, Before Helen, & A Cold City Night at The Rock House at Centennial Secondary in Coquitlam!
It was great to be able to be a part of such an honorable cause & we’d like to take a moment and give our thanks to Kieran Strange for hooking us up with the gig and Audrey Angchangco for welcoming us onto the bill!
Cheers guys!   We owe you one!

As for the Fete De La Musique festival, we just received word from the  coordinators that we will be playing outside the Blarney Stone in Gastown @216 Carrall Street, along with B-MONSTER & the LA band, The Nukes who are making a stop here in Vancouver during their west coast tour! We look forward to having you guys out here!  This is bound to be one hell of a festival -rain or shine, so be sure that you join all of us in the festivities on the streets June 21st!

For the month of June; The Cambie Esquimalt, Fete De Le Musique, Backstage Lounge, & more!

Friday, June 3, 2011 11:26

We’ve got a couple weeks of some good ol’ rest & relaxation coming up -just a quick break from recording, rehearsals, and gigs), until Friday, June 17th, when we’ll be off to Victoria for our one night show at the Cambie Esquimalt with local band, Durban Poison!

This will be our first Victoria gig, so if you happen to know anybody on the island who wouldn’t mind a good show, please be sure to let them know of our arrival and invite them out by connecting them to our Facebook Invite List!

Once we get back to Vancouver we’ve got a set in Gastown as part of the Fete De la Musique & Make Music Vancouver Outdoor Music Festival on June 21st along with tons of other local bands, so if you’re not doing anything that afternoon, be sure to come join us on the streets!
Also, later that night we’ve got a show at the Backstage Lounge that we’re stoked for because we’ll be playing with our good friends  The Twitch &  Erin Frances and The Socialites !

This is going to be our first time at the Backstage Lounge, as well as our last show of the month, so be sure to make it out for your last chance to receive your Free Tickets to the Roxy show which has been rescheduled for the 7th of July! -Also, speaking of the Roxy, unfortunately Aviator Shades will not be able to join us that night due to scheduling conflicts, but we’ve got a band coming your way that will make a great addition to the night! But we’ll be keeping it a bit of a surprise until the event poster is done up! ; )

We’ll have some new songs mixed into the setlist by this time – both covers & originals, so be sure to make it out to be the first to get to hear em! ALSO, don’t forget!; Your ticket stub gets you a FREE DRINK, compliments of the Roxy!

We look forward to meeting, greeting, and seeing you all then & there!

Until next time, from the great west…

*Raincheck on the ROXY show; Rescheduled! | Please read for more info!*

Saturday, May 28, 2011 10:47

Due to the Stanley Cup finals being scheduled on the same night as our show at the Roxy, we’ll be moving our show date from the 8th of June to the 7th of July.
That way, all the hockey fans out there can peacefully watch the game and not have to strain to hear the announces over our drum kit! –Plus, its going to be a great set of games & we don’t want to impose by trying to play tug-o-war with your attention! =P

After a long talk with Roxy management we realize that this is the only way we’d be able to have both nights be a success, both for the Roxy as well as for ourselves & Aviator Shades.   We hope that this does not cause any inconvenience for anyone and apologize immensely to everyone who has already started promoting the night on their side.

For those of you who already have tickets for June 8, don’t worry, your June ticket will still be valid for the night of Thursday, July 7th.

In the meantime, we’d love to have you join us at the Fete De La Musique festival in Gastown during the afternoon of the 21st, as well as later that evening at the Backstage Lounge where we’ll be playing with The Twitch and our good friends, Erin Frances & the Socialites.   Also, for those of you who are in Victoria, we’ll be playing a set at the Cambie in Esquimalt the night of Friday the 17th and would love to have you out!

Other than that, all our dates are set in stone so be sure to keep an eye on our gig schedule to keep up to date with upcoming shows in your area! We look forward to having you out to a show and getting a chance to meet all the new faces that we’ve had the pleasure of connecting with here online.
